Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملRed giants in open clusters VII . Melotte 71 ? , ? ?
New CORAVEL radial-velocity observations and UBV photometry of 24 red giants in the field of the intermediate-age open cluster Mel 71 are analysed for membership and duplicity. The membership of 16 stars is confirmed, one star is a possible member, and 8 spectroscopic binaries have been discovered , all amongst the cluster stars. Four of their orbits have been determined, with periods ranging f...
متن کاملRed giants in open clusters VIII . NGC 752 ? , ? ?
The results of an 18-year radial-velocity survey of 30 red giants in the field of the open cluster NGC 752 are presented. The membership of 15 stars is confirmed. Four spectroscopic binaries have been discovered among the members and three orbits have been determined for H75, 110 and 208, with periods of 3321, 127 and 5276 days respectively. The binary frequency (27%) is normal. A search for ad...
متن کاملProspects for Observing Pulsating Red Giants with the Mons Star Trackers
K and M giants show variability on timescales from years down to days and possibly even hours. I discuss the contribution that can be made with high-precision photometry that will be obtained by the MONS Star Trackers. These include observations of flare-like events on Mira variables, and oscillation spectra for K giants and short-period M giants.
متن کاملTriplet Spectroscopy of Giants in SMC Star Clusters : Abundances , Velocities and the Age - Metallicity Relation
We have obtained spectra at the Ca II triplet of individual red giants in seven SMC star clusters whose ages range from ∼4 to 12 Gyr. The spectra have been used to determine mean abundances for six of the star clusters to a typical precision of 0.12 dex. When combined with existing data for other objects, the resulting SMC age-metallicity relation is generally consistent with that for a simple ...
